Key factor

Bedard out until November after shoulder surgery

AI reasoning

Chicago opens without Connor Bedard, who had left shoulder surgery in July and is out until November after leading the team with 75 points in 69 games; the Blackhawks were 29-39-14 and missed the playoffs. Vegas, six months removed from a Cup Final loss to Carolina, hands the crease to Carter Hart, who went 14-8 with a 2.56 GAA in 22 playoff starts. The -263 price is consistent with a healthy home favorite facing a bottom-tier offense.
